Killers of the Flower Moon will begin streaming on Apple TV+ next week, on January 12, a little over a month after the film was released on digital platforms.
First reported by IndieWire, Apple announced the streaming release of the Martin Scorsese film on Thursday. The timing of the Apple TV+ release is no coincident: The voting period for Oscar nominations begins on January 11. Marty knows what he’s doing!
Starring Lily Gladstone, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert De Niro, Killers of the Flower Moon is a period drama that tells the true story of the murders in the Osage Nation in the 1920s. The film was a joint release between Apple TV Studios and Paramount, with Paramount handling the theatrical release of Killers of the Flower Moon, opening on October 20. Killers is still playing in a few select theaters, but it’s also been available to buy and rent on premium video-on-demand for the past month, costing $19.99 to rent and $24.99 to buy on platforms like Amazon Prime, Vudu, Google Play, and more.
Now, three months after it opened in theaters, Killers of the Flower of the Moon will be available to stream on Apple TV+, free to anyone with an Apple TV+ subscription. And it’s a safe bet that quite a few members of the Academy will be streaming the movie in the coming weeks. Killers of the Flower of the Moon is a strong contender for the Oscar for Best Picture. It was recently named Best Film of 2023 by the New York Film Critics Circle and was named one of the top 10 films of the year by the American Film Institute. It will also compete for the title of Best Motion Picture – Drama at the annual Golden Globe awards this Sunday.
But will Martin Scorsese once again take home the Oscar? We’ll have to wait and see.
