Whoopi Goldberg is setting the record straight on The View. Just moments into today’s show, the moderator made it abundantly clear that any association between herself and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is entirely fabricated.
Her comments came during a conversation about the Epstein list, a collection of court documents featuring names from civil suit against Ghislaine Maxwell, who helped Epstein sex traffic teen girls.
“I have to explain, because there was a fake list, and I’m on it,” Goldberg told the panel.
Sunny Hostin mockingly asked, “So you were on the island?” referring to Little St. James, the private island owned by Epstein, to which Goldberg replied, “Apparently. I don’t know, they said I was on the island, and I’m like, ‘I don’t go anywhere!'”
Sara Haines then chimed in to joke, “If the story was about a bus…” and Goldberg quipped, “Yeah, maybe!”
She continued, “I’m just gonna say, there’s been a lot of stuff recently. I don’t know what I’ve done to anybody, but apparently there are a lot of these kind of sites that are … satire sites. But people don’t realize that they can be harmful, so let me just get my part out.”
Goldberg then went on to address a slew of rumors she’s seen about herself, debunking stories that she was kicked out of both Gordon Rasmay and Guy Fieri‘s restaurants, was kicked off Bill Maher‘s show, and that she got into a fight with Oprah Winfrey backstage at The View.
“It’s insane!” she exclaimed. “It goes on and on and on, and what I’m going to say about all of that—”
Before she could continue, Joy Behar joked, “But are you having George Clooney‘s baby? That’s what I want to know.”
Goldberg, playing along, replied, “Not now, you know,” before resuming her remarks. “But, I mean, sites get away with posting all sorts of garbage and they call it satire. But I’m saying this now: as we’re talking about this, people who post these things should be very careful, because once someone is cleared of your insanity, they’re gonna call their lawyer on you.”
When it was time to close out the topic, Goldberg delivered one final message to viewers about misinformation.
“Don’t believe unless I tell you about me. You’ll know if I’m doing something,” she said. “I’ll let you know! I have nothing to hide. I don’t care what people think.”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
