Last night’s (Jan. 7) Golden Globes might as well have been deemed a Suits reunion, as far as fans are concerned. Four of its stars — Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, Gina Torres, and Sarah Rafferty — were back together once again as they presented at the 2024 Globes. However, fans likely noticed a familiar (and former royal) face was missing — Meghan Markle‘s, to be exact.
Adams and Macht, who were the first to take the stage to present the award for “Best TV Series- Drama,” poked fun at their legal drama’s recent resurgence, quipping, “it’s hard to imagine having to wait so long to see your show get that kind of recognition.”
Eventually, Torres and Rafferty joined them at the mic, where the four actors crowned Succession as the best TV drama.
However, earlier on Sunday night, Torres hinted at Markle’s absence while speaking to Variety on the red carpet. With respect to the four stars’ reunion, she shared that “when it all came through, they were all texting each other.”
“Our text thread is insane right now, so it’s very exciting,” she told the outlet on the red carpet.
When asked by Variety, “Who texted Meghan and said, ‘You gotta come to the Golden Globes,'” Torres replied, “We don’t have her number.”
“We just don’t, so, she’ll see,” she added. “She’ll watch. She’ll be happy that we’re here.”
Markle spoke to Variety in November about Suits‘ “wild” new popularity, claiming that she has “no idea” why the show is so big years after it ended in 2019. However, she ultimately argued that “good shows are everlasting.”
“It’s hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days,” she said at the time. “That could have something to do with it.”
More recently, Markle appeared in an ad for Clevr Blends — a company in which she is an investor — making a surprising (albeit underwhelming) return to acting.
