Alan Ruck arrived at the 2024 Golden Globes with a cane just months after he was involved in a car crash in Hollywood. Ruck, who crashed his truck into a Los Angeles pizzeria in late October 2023, walked the Globes red carpet in a sleek gray suit with a black cane in hand.

While it was unclear if Ruck’s accessory was a fashion statement or a medical necessity, the Globes mark the first time he has been publicly photographed using it.

The cane did not go unnoticed by fans, who had plenty to say about it on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

One Succession fan joked that Ruck’s cane was something his character in the HBO drama would likely use, writing, “ALAN RUCK WITH A CANEEEEEEEEE. THAT’S SO CONNOR ROY.”

Others wondered by Ruck was using the cane, with one asking, “is alan ruck ok? what’s with the cane?” and another writing, “ALAN RUCK USING A CANE?????”

After his crash, which took place Oct. 31, 2023, Ruck insisted he had not sustained any serious injuries. The Ferris Bueller actor said he was “fine” and expressed gratitude that nobody had been killed in the incident while speaking with TMZ just days later. In photos published by TMZ the same day he spoke to them, Ruck was seen walking with some form of brace around his knee. However, the actor told the outlet that the sleeve was unrelated to his car crash.

In December 2023, Ruck was sued for the car accident, per USA Today. Horacio Vela, a driver who was struck by Ruck’s car, filed a suit accusing him of negligence and requesting compensation.

Ruck is attending tonight’s awards show as a nominee in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role on Television category. He is nominated for his work playing Connor Roy on Succession. Ruck has never been nominated for a Golden Globe prior to this year, although he was nominated for his Succession role at last year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.

The 2024 Golden Globes are airing Jan. 7 at 8/7c on CBS.
