Just a few weeks after Christopher Nolan defended physical media in an interview with IGN, 4K UHD Blu-ray copies of his latest film, Oppenheimer, are selling out faster than Universal can produce them.

“If you buy a 4K UHD, you buy a Blu-ray, it’s on your shelf, it’s yours,” streaming skeptic Nolan said in the interview. “No company is going to break into your house and take it from you and repossess it.”

At an event celebrating the three-hour epic earlier this month, Nolan also touched on the topic of Oppenheimer’s physical release, which came four months after its initial theatrical release (in tandem with the digital release on VOD platforms like Prime Video).

“I’ve been working very hard on it for months,” he said of the 4K Blu-ray home release. “I’m known for my love of theatrical and put my whole life into that, but the truth is, the way the film goes out at home is equally important.”

Physical copies of Oppenheimer hit in-store and virtual shelves just last week on November 21. Still, the 4K version, in particular is flying off shelves in a rare showing of consumers embracing a physical media release. While it’s currently not in stock on Amazon or Best Buy, we did find in-stock copies of the 4K discs that aren’t jacked up in price on resale sites.

You can snag one right now from Walmart, Barnes & Noble, and Target; we recommend acting fast, though, because, as we noted, they’re selling out quickly.
