The 2024 Golden Globes are getting ready to kick off award season — and presumably celebrate an end to the months-long strikes that halted actors and writers from basking in the successes of their work. With the annual award show less than a month away, we finally have all of this year’s nominees.
Aside from the three-hour ceremony airing on CBS instead of NBC, it will also introduce two new categories: the Golden Globe for best performance in stand-up comedy on television and the Golden Globe for cinematic and box office achievement, which will go to the highest-earning flicks of the year.
Plus, it’s the first Golden Globe ceremony that won’t be backed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the company that founded the award show, which, after years of controversy, shut down in July 2023. With the show’s rights getting bought out from the HFPA, Dick Clark Productions’s CEO Jay Penske has promised to “continue creating the most dynamic awards ceremony on live television viewed across the world,” per Vogue.
Last summer’s blockbusters, Barbie and Oppenheimer, unsurprisingly nabbed a handful of nominations, alongside shows like Succession, Ted Lasso, Jury Duty and Daisy Jones & The Six.
The 81st Golden Globes will air Sunday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and Paramount+.
