The Glee cast reunited to honor their late co-star Naya Rivera, lending their vocals to one of the singer’s previously unreleased songs for charity.
As part of the Alexandria House’s annual Snixxmas Charity Fundraiser, various members of the Glee cast recorded new background vocals for “Prayers for the Broken,” a single Rivera recorded in 2012 that is now available to stream and purchase.
The single features vocals from Glee stars Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Heather Morris, Amber Riley, Vanessa Lengies, and Ashley Fink. Proceeds from “Prayers for the Broken” will go directly to Alexandria house.
McHale and Ushkowitz unveiled the single to E! News Friday. “We wanted to do something to honor her, put out something positive from such a horrible, horrible event,” McHale said.
Ushkowitz added, “It’s just a really special song now that we’ll have and more importantly, the fans will have, to be able to hear her voice again.”
The Alexandria House’s annual Snixxmas Charity Fundraiser is now in its fourth year of honoring of Rivera, who worked closely with the organization to help provide support to women and children.
The organization wrote that the single is “a touching tribute to Naya’s enduring legacy.” Alexandria House reportedly raised almost $250,000 through the charity over the past four years.
Rivera died in 2020 from an accidental drowning at the age of 33 while boating in Lake Piru, about 50 miles from Los Angeles, with her then-four-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey.
The actress’s family reached a settlement against Ventura County after they sued for wrongful death.
An attorney for Rivera’s estate said, “Through this settlement, Josey will receive just compensation for having to endure the drowning of his beloved mother at Lake Piru. Though the tragic loss of Josey’s mother can never truly be overcome, we are very pleased that the monetary settlement will significantly assist Josey with his life beyond this tragedy.”
