‘Frozen’
In just a few days, Frozen will turn 10 — yes, Frozen came out 10 years ago! Disney’s modern classic may be the best film to come from the studio since the Renaissance of the ’90s, and it checks every single box: a pretty dress (complete with a beautifully animated transformation), cute sidekicks, catchy tunes (there’s not a single miss in the bunch, which includes Oscar winner “Let It Go”), and a perfect villain turn that I didn’t see coming. What makes Frozen stand out from many of the Disney Princess movies that came before it is that it primarily focuses on sisterhood. There is romance, of course, but the beating heart of Frozen is the strained relationship between sisters Princess Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel), and the journey they take to find their way back to each other after Elsa uses her ice powers to curse their kingdom with an eternal winter and flees to isolate herself. Along the way, they’ll get help from local mountain man Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), his reindeer Sven, and Olaf (Josh Gad), a familiar snowman unknowingly brought to life with Elsa’s powers. If you haven’t revisited Frozen recently, take this tenth anniversary as an opportunity to do so — we promise it’ll feel like a warm hug.
