Andrew Tate Doc Coming to BBC Months After Controversial Influencer Was Hit With Rape and Trafficking Charges

Andrew Tate, the controversial influencer who was charged earlier this year with rape and human trafficking, is slated to be the subject of an upcoming BBC Three investigative documentary.

The project, which has the working title Andrew Tate: The Man Who Groomed the World?, is being spearheaded by investigative reporter Matt Shea and director Jamie Tahsin, according to Variety. The two previously worked together on another Tate-related doc called The Dangerous Rise of Andrew Tate.

“We have now been investigating Andrew Tate and his inner circle for four years and are almost ready to reveal what we’ve uncovered,” Shea said in a statement to the outlet. “In this documentary, we uncover Tate’s global network, which spans multiple continents, affects potentially hundreds of victims, and ultimately seek to discover who is really behind Andrew Tate.”

In December 2022, Andrew and his brother, Tristan Tate, were arrested in Romania along with two other people after seven alleged victims claimed they were recruited on “false promises of love and marriage” — only to be intimidated, raped and forced into participating in pornography that was later shared on social media, among other accusations, according to the BBC.

In June, they were charged with rape, human trafficking and forming an organized crime group to sexually exploit women, per BBC. All involved have denied the charges — and both brothers were released from house arrest last week after an appeal worked in their favor.

Andrew initially rose to fame as a professional kickboxer. However, he fully came into the public eye after appearing on Big Brother in 2016 — and was ultimately axed from the show after a video of him allegedly hitting a woman with a belt resurfaced. Andrew eventually gained a wide following on his social media accounts; he has been banned from multiple platforms for his offensive, misogynistic comments.

“For the first time, audiences will see the inner circle behind Andrew Tate, exposing those helping to craft him into a global figurehead, exploring the ideologies and end goal of Tate and his circle, and revealing how his global network has left potentially hundreds of victims in its wake,” a press release describing the new documentary said, per Variety.

Mike Radford, an executive producer on the documentary, praised both Shea and Tahsin’s “tenacity and dedication” to their investigation of both Andrew and his organization, per The Evening Standard.

He added, “It’s important that as many people as possible should be made aware of the workings of him and his close associates.”

While a release date has not yet been announced, Andrew Tate: The Man Who Groomed the World? will be available to stream in the U.S. on BBC Select via Amazon Prime, Apple TV and the Roku Channel.
