New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Faraway Downs, The Naughty Nine, Elf + More

If you’re looking for a prestige drama series to start over this holiday weekend, look no further than Faraway Downs, the Baz Luhrmann series on Hulu that has been recut from all the old unused footage from his 2008 epic, Australia. For more festive fare, pop over to Disney+ where you can watch the new kids’ Christmas movie The Naughty Nine, or check in with Hulu and Max, where you can see loads of classics like Elf, The Polar Express, Elmo Saves Christmas, and more, all of which have been newly released and will surely get you in the holiday spirit.

New on Hulu November 26: Faraway Downs

For those of you who think that Baz Luhrmann’s 2 hour and 45 minute epic Australia didn’t give you quite enough Australia, enter Faraway Downs. The new Hulu limited series is an extended, six-part show that reimagines the 2008 film that starred Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman as a longer, richer story of love and war Down Under. This version of the story of Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman), who travels from England to the Northern Territory of Australia to manage her husband’s cattle ranch alongside Jackman’s character, was cut from the hours of extra footage that didn’t make it into the film and reflects a more nuanced and detailed tale.

New on Disney+ November 23: The Naughty Nine

The Naughty Nine is the perfect way to end your Thanksgiving week and get ready for the Christmas holiday. The Disney Plus original film stars Winslow Fegley as Andy, a fifth grader whose position on Santa’s “Naughty List” leaves him without any presents on Christmas Day. Seeking revenge on Santa, he assembles and Oceans 11-style team of pals to get what’s theirs, but obviously along the way they learn the true meaning of Christmas.

New on Hulu November 23: Elf

At long last, the Jon Favreau-directed Elf starring Will Ferrell is available on Hulu this week. That film, along with other holiday films like Fred Claus, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Jack Frost, and Four Christmases, are among the new holiday films dropping on the platform this week. And over on Max, you can check out their newly released library of Sesame Street holiday movies, including Elmo Saves Christmas and the 1978 classic Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. So grab the remote and your ugliest Christmas sweater, there are loads of great modern classics available to cozy up with this week!
