The new Unsolved Mysteries documentary, Unsolved Mysteries: Behind the Legacy, is a beautifully penned love letter to fans of the original series.

Now streaming on Pluto TV, the breezy one-hour doc celebrates the 35th anniversary of the iconic true-crime trailblazer by gifting fans with a plethora of fun, fascinating behind-the-scenes anecdotes from the show’s historic run. Featuring interviews with co-creators Terry Dunn Meurer and John Cosgrove, the film delves into how the show found stories in a pre-internet era while also offering interesting tidbits about a number of fan-favorite mysteries (including “Roswell” and “Rainboy”). One example: For the show’s memorable “Bigfoot” episode, production actually rented the Bigfoot costume from the 1987 Harry and the Hendersons movie.

The documentary also looks back at a number of classic cases and highlights the multitude of celebrities who’ve appeared on the show (Matthew McConaughey, Daniel Dae Kim, Cheryl Hines), but the highlight of the entertaining trip down memory lane is an adorable Robert Stack blooper.

Stack, the legendary host who provided the always smooth, often terrifying voice of the original series, is synonymous with Unsolved Mysteries. Previously known for his work on the ABC series The Untouchables, the 1956 film Written on the Wind (in which he earned an Oscar nom for Best Supporting Actor), and his deadpan performance in the classic 1980 comedy Airplane!, the prolific actor served as the host of the true-crime juggernaut for 15 years.

“People really liked him as a person, because he was a very likable guy” former Unsolved Mysteries producer Shannon McGinn remarks in the documentary. “And he was a Hollywood icon.” The production team’s affection for the late host is evident throughout the documentary, especially during a Season 3 blooper from a mystery titled “Epilepsy Pooches.”

“We did have one time where we ran into some problems,” director John C. Joseph recounts. “We had this scene where Bob had to hold a dog, and no matter how we had him hold the dog, the dog was squirming, and Bob Stack was having trouble, and he was kinda swearing under his breath.”

The outtake concludes with Stack joking, “Other than that, how’d you like the show Mrs. Lincoln?”

Ever the consummate professional, Stack delivered the shot. The final version of the intro, which only lasts 10 seconds, can be seen in Season 3, Episode 9’s “Epilepsy Pooches.
