If you are looking for a totally horrifying (yet hilarious) film to get you in the Halloween spirit, Prime Video’s Totally Killer is definitely a must-see.
Totally Killer begins 35 years after the devastating murders of Tiffany Clark (Liana Liberato), Marisa Song (Stephi Chin-Salvo) and Heather Hernandez (Anna Diaz), three teenagers who were assassinated by the “Sweet 16 Killer” by being stabbed 16 times on the nights of their 16th birthdays, respectively – how spooky is that?
When 17-year-old Jamie Hughes (Kiernan Shipka) accidentally finds herselfface-to-face with the infamous serial killer, who returned on Halloween night in 2022 to claim yet another victim, she accidentally time travels back to 1987, the year when the murders first began.
Given that her mom, Pam Miller (played by Julie Bowen in the present, but Olivia Holt in the ’87 timeline), was friends with the three victims back in the day, Jamie teams up with the teenage version of her mother to stop the masked maniac once and for all, all while trying to make it back to the present before it is too late – the movie is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish!
If you enjoyed Prime Video’s Totally Killer throughout the entirety of its 106-minute runtime just like we did, you may be left with an urge to watch even more horror movies in the upcoming days. With Halloween still being two weeks away, you will need something to fill the void, and fortunately the Decider team has you covered.

Does a serial killer murdering a bunch of teenage girls sound familiar? Totally Killer might give you some flashbacks to Sorority Row, a reimagined version of the 1982 classic, The House on Sorority Row.
Starring Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Carrie Fisher and more, Sorority Row begins with a group of students at Rosman University and members of Theta Pi covering up the accidental death of one of their sisters, which tragically occurs after a seemingly harmless prank goes wrong.
Just eight months later, on their graduation night, a masked killer begins stalking and murdering the group of women responsible for hiding the death of their sister, making for a movie jam-packed with violence, blood and gore that all horror-lovers are sure to enjoy.
While there is no time travel involved, as well as slightly less comedy than Totally Killer, Sorority Row still has its fair share of gruesome murders, with an engaging female-focused plot.
Nonetheless, those who enjoyed Totally Killer should definitely add Sorority Row to their watchlist – it is sure to hook you right from the start!
If sororities and fraternities are not your thing, chances are slumber parties might be.
Released in 1982, The Slumber Party Massacre follows an 18-year-old named Trish Devereaux (Michelle Michaels) who throws the ultimate slumber party while her parents are out of town. To her surprise, a power drill-wielding killer is on the loose in her neighborhood, ready to attack her and her friends, making for a film jam-packed with gruesome murders (and a splash of satire).
Also with an engaging female-focused plot, Totally Killer and The Slumber Party Massacre perfectly combine humor and horror, all while capturing a totally tubular 1980s feel.
With two sequels, a behind-the-scenes documentary and a 2021 remake, it is clear that Slumber Party Massacre is a fan favorite, and you need to check it out for yourself if you loved Totally Killer as much as we did.
Did we mention it was written and directed entirely by women? How cool is that?
If the comedic aspect of Totally Killer is what you enjoyed the most, then The Babysitter is sure to be right up your alley.
The Babysitter follows a 12-year-old boy named Cole (Judah Lewis) who falls in love with his oh-so sexy babysitter named Bee (Samara Weaving), who happens to be a part of a satanic cult. Things immediately take a turn when Bee and the rest of her cult try to sacrifice Cole, ultimately kickstarting his mission to survive.
With stars like Bella Thorne, Robbie Amell, Andrew Bachelor and more in supporting roles, the comedic nature of the film, as well as its generous dose of gore, cause it to fall into the same category as Totally Killer, making for a slasher-comedy that is certain to tickle your fancy.
Already watched The Babysitter and simply can’t get enough? Fortunately, Netflix released a sequel in 2020 titled The Babysitter: Killer Queenthat is equally as phenomenal — be sure to check it out for yourself!
Speaking of the slasher-comedy genre, Blumhouse Productions’ Happy Death Day fits the bill perfectly, bringing in the time travel aspect we know and love from Totally Killer.
Happy Death Day follows the life of Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe), a college student who is murdered on the night of her birthday and begins reliving the fateful day over and over again, getting murdered in a different way each time. With each death, Tree finds out more and more about the identity of her killer, embarking on a mission to break the cycle, as well as pinpoint who is responsible for her assassination.
Happy Death Day is arguably one of the most similar films to Totally Killer on our list, featuring its own time travel aspect, as well as the same mission to stop the killer and end the pattern once and for all. To top it off, the film is equally as horrifying and hilarious as Totally Killer, causing fans to compare the two to each other.
Being deemed one of the most memorable horror films of the 2010s, Happy Death Day is truly a fan favorite. If you love it as much as we do, be sure to check out the sequel, Happy Death Day 2 U, afterwards — it is equally as exceptional!
If you love scary movies, as well as the 1976, 1995, 2003 and 2018 Freaky Friday films, then Freaky was made for you.
Freaky is yet another Blumhouse Productions movie that draws similarities to Totally Killer, due to the humor riddled throughout the horror film, as well as a thrilling race against the clock – it is an oh-so spooky spin-off of the Freaky Friday films that we know and love!
Freaky is centered around a teenage girl named Millie Kessler (Kathryn Newton) who accidentally switches bodies with a middle-aged serial killer known as the “Blissfield Butcher” (Vince Vaughn) after an unexpected attack. With just 24 hours to reverse the curse and return to her day-to-day life, Millie embarks on a thrilling mission to get her life back throughout the movie’s 101-minute runtime, and it is sure to cause your heart to skip a beat.
With a body-swapping plot that can be compared to the time travel aspect of Totally Killer, as well as loads of violence, blood and gore (plus some comedy, of course), lovers of the slasher-comedy genre have compared Totally Killer and Freaky to one another in the past.
If you are looking for yet another film that will have you laughing, all while covering your eyes, you need to check out Freaky ASAP.
With this next movie on our list, we have just one question: truth or dare?
Starring Lucy Hale, Tyler Posey, Violet Beane and more, Truth or Dare is a third Blumhouse Productions film that is equally as spine-chilling as Totally Killer (with an equally as attractive cast).
Within the movie, a group of college students play a game of truth or dare while on vacation in Mexico, only to realize that there are deadly consequences if you don’t follow through with your assignment — truth or die, do the dare or die and keep playing or die. Forcing the friend group to share their darkest secrets and confront their biggest fears, this game of truth or dare is seemingly never ending… or is it?
While it does not have nearly as much comedy as Totally Killer (and definitely no time travel), Truth or Dare is jam-packed with drama, highlighting a lot of the same things throughout its 100-minute runtime. Dealing with teenagers and young adults in the respective films, there is plenty of partying, relationship troubles and, of course, murders from an unknown serial killer within both Totally Killer and Truth or Dare.
We dare you to add this movie to your watchlist… or else.
Last, but certainly not least, The Final Girls is arguably the most similar film to Total Killer on our list, so fans of the latter are sure to love it equally as much.
The Final Girls follows the life of Max Cartwright (Taissa Farmiga), a high school student who tragically lost her mother in a car accident. When she and her friends unintentionally travel into an 1980s horror movie titled Camp Bloodbath, Max gets to see her mother again, due to the fact that she was an actress in the film back in the day.
Bound to the movie’s plot (which has her destined to die in the end), Max makes it her mission to save her mother from dying within Camp Bloodbath, all in an attempt to make her “the final girl” standing.
Sound familiar? Totally Killer and The Final Girls have a similar plot in the sense that high school students time travel to the 80s, with loads of gruesome murders riddled throughout the film.
With time travel aside, a key part of Totally Killer is Jamie’s connection with her mother as well, something that is not seen within any of the movies on our list besides The Final Girls – if that is what you loved the most about Totally Killer, then The Final Girls is sure to be up your alley!
