What are you streaming over the holiday weekend? Team Decider recommends the hilarious new movie Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain on Peacock (think this generation’s Hot Rod), Adam Sandler’s new animated Netflix film Leo, the entertaining Albert Brooks documentary on Max, and Nathan Fielder’s weird, wonderful Showtime series The Curse. But what about Yellowstone?
The good news? Yellowstone will air tonight on Paramount Network and CBS. The bad news? Those episodes are reruns. So close, right? There won’t be any new episodes in the near future, but we do have an update as to when Yellowstone will return. What’s the scoop? Here’s everything you need to know.
Is Yellowstone on Tonight (11/26/23)?
Yes… but they’re reruns. Paramount Network is airing Season 5 episodes of Yellowstone starting with the season premiere at 3:00 p.m. ET. The midseason finale, “A Knife and No Coin,” begins at 11:55 p.m. ET.
CBS will also be airing back-to-back Season 2 episodes of Yellowstone (“Resurrection Day” and “Behind Us Only Grey”) starting at 9:00 p.m. ET.
When Does Yellowstone Return With New Episodes on Paramount Network?
Next year. Earlier this month, Paramount Network announced that Yellowstone will return for the second half of Season 5 in November 2024. The network also revealed that two new Yellowstone spinoffs — 1944 and 2024 — are forthcoming.
No plot details for 1944 or 2024 were announced, but Variety reports that 2024 is expected to begin airing following the conclusion of Yellowstone, with the show featuring “new cast members and locations with some crossover characters as well.” This is the series that would most likely include Matthew McConaughey, who’s been rumored to star in a Yellowstone spinoff since April.
The second half of Season 5 was originally supposed to consist of six episodes, but during a June 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sheridan said that he might write more than the previously reported six installments. “If I think it takes ten episodes to wrap it up, they’ll give me ten,” he said. “It’ll be as long as it needs to be.”
Is Kevin Costner Leaving Yellowstone?
Production on the second half of Season 5 has yet to begin, so Costner’s level of involvement in the remaining episodes remains a mystery. The actor revealed in a September court trial that he was initially offered $24 million to do Seasons 5, 6, and 7 of Yellowstone but there were “issues with creative.”
Per Deadline, another source of contention centered around the star’s shooting schedule. Costner reportedly wanted more time to spend on his upcoming multi-part Western movie Horizon: An American Saga, a film in which he starred, directed, co-wrote, and produced.
The situation remains in flux — Costner said in September that he’ll “probably go to court” over his Yellowstone exit — so it’s safe to say that he almost certainly won’t be involved in future spinoffs.
