Another year, another chapter of American Horror Story. This time, Ryan Murphy and gang are going Delicate.
No, the new season of the hit FX horror anthology series is not Taylor Swift themed — instead, FX took to X, formerly known as Twitter, this morning to announce the official name and premiere date for the two-part season, which has received significant attention for the casting of reality TV mogul Kim Kardashian.
Premiering on Wednesday, Sept. 20, Season 12, titled AHS: Delicate, also sees series veteran Emma Roberts returning as a leading player this season. Two intriguing official posters also bowed this morning, featuring Roberts and Kardashian in questionable bleach blonde wigs and cradling giant spiders, suggesting a theme of pregnancy and babies.
These official peeks come just days after a teaser trailer dropped featuring Kardashian, Roberts and co-star Cara Delevingne.
The centering of Kardashian in the series, as well as its early promotion, recalls the last major name casting of the series, when superstar Lady Gaga first joined the franchise for its fifth season, Hotel. The role nabbed Gaga a Golden Globe and launched her wildly successful film career.
As usual for AHS, many plot details are being kept under wraps, however the casting of Kardashian is not the only first for the series. AHS: Delicate is based on Delicate Condition, an upcoming novel from Danielle Valentine, a thriller about a woman’s attempts at pregnancy being thwarted, according to the book’s publisher. This is the first season to be based on source material.
Also for the first time, Murphy will be stepping back as showrunner, with award-winning playwright Halley Feiffer taking over his duties.
These are certainly intriguing new developments for the AHS universe, which come after the series’ declining cultural impact in recent years. I personally miss the days when AHS had those gorgeously creepy official posters that introduced the entire ensemble cast while also teasing us about the setting of the season, but we’ll take what we can get.
