Jenna Bush Hager is known for getting emotional on Today With Hoda & Jenna, but the daytime host admitted that she also has her moments at home, too.
Bush Hager told her Today co-host, Hoda Kotb, that her ten-year-old daughter recently told her to “stop crying” when she became emotional watching Jennifer Garner‘s latest Christmas movie, Family Switch.
“It’s really loving, and Mila was like, ‘Please stop crying. Mom, stop crying. It’s enough,'” she recalled as Kotb laughed. “And I was like, ‘But this is so sweet!'”
Kotb replied, “I think crying in front of your kids is an interesting thing.” She shared that she recently cried in front of her daughters when they were looking through USPS Operation Santa, an annual program the United States Postal Service holds that allows people to “adopt” a stranger’s Christmas wishlist.
But Bush Hager admitted that “the amount” that she cries at home may be a bit too much.
“I mean for Mila to be like, ‘I’ve had [enough]’… She was sitting on my lap so I’m sure she felt the tears. She just was like, ‘Enough mom, this is sweet, but this is not a tearjerker! You need some help,'” she said.
Bush Hager has cried a number of times on Today, whether she’s talking about her sister, apologizing to Kotb, or sharing a sweet moment with a Spice Girl.
But she only had good things to say about Garner’s new film, which follows the Walker family after a rare planetary alignment leads them all to switch places with each other right before the holidays. “It’s super cute, it’s all about being a loving family,” Bush Hager said.
She later added that, as they were watching the film with their children, her husband joked that he loves “watching shows about dysfunctional families.” When she asked why, she said he replied, “Because it makes me feel so much better.”
Kotb could not hold back her laughter at that one.
Today with Jenna and Hoda airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
