ESPN host Pat McAfee addressed the claim Aaron Rodgers recently made on The Pat McAfee Show, in which he alleged that Jimmy Kimmel was somehow connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
After Kimmel insinuated that he could sue Rodgers over the claim, McAfee opened his show on Wednesday with an apology for the late night host, but maintained that the remarks made on his show were just “shit talk.”
“There could be some things that were certainly, probably — I mean, we’re gonna have to hear from Aaron on that — meant to be a shit talk joke that can then become something that is obviously a very serious allegation, that then leads to a massive overnight story,” McAfee said, per The Hollywood Reporter.
He continued, “Some things obviously people get very pissed off about, especially when they’re that serious allegations. So we apologize for being a part of it. I can’t wait to hear what Aaron has to say about it. Hopefully those two will just be able to settle this, you know, not work wise, but be able to chit chat and move along.”
The talk show host acknowledge that he “can understand why Jimmy got incredibly upset,” but still defended Rodgers, who is a frequent guest on the show.
“I think Aaron is like, ‘Hey, this guy has said some stuff about me in his monologue’ and he’s just trying to shit talk,” McAfee said. “I don’t think he meant anything else, but he’s gonna have to clarify that for us.”
The controversy began when Rodgers was discussing the forthcoming “list” of Epstein’s alleged associates that is set to be released to the public for the very first time. Rodger said on show earlier this week, “There are a lot of people, including Jimmy Kimmel, that are really hoping that doesn’t come out.”
Kimmel clapped back in a statement shared on X.
“Dear Aasshole: for the record, I’ve not met, flown with, visited, or had any contact whatsoever with Epstein, nor will you find my name on any ‘list’ other than the clearly-phony nonsense that soft-brained wackos like yourself can’t seem to distinguish from reality,” Kimmel wrote.
His statement continued, “Your reckless words put my family in danger. Keep it up and we will debate the facts further in court.”
The late night host has previously mocked Rodgers for his interest in the Epstein case, calling him a “tin foil hatter” during a recent monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
According to The Guardian, a list identifying dozens of anonymous associates connected to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex trafficking operation will be released any day now.
