New on Netflix December 22: Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire
Zack Snyder’s new space fantasy franchise, Rebel Moon, makes it’s debut on Netflix this week with its first installment, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. The film, which was co-written by Snyder, Kurt Johnstad and Shay Hatten, stars Sofia Boutella as Kora, a former soldier in a land called the Motherworld who attempts to recruit warriors from across the galaxy to make a stand against the army that’s closing in on the farm colony she lives on. Charlie Hunnam, Jena Malone, and Michiel Huisman also co-star. Its sequel, Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, is scheduled for release in April, 2024.
New on Disney+ December 22: Marvel Studios’ What If…?
Marvel Studios’ What If…? series repositions famous moments that have taken place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, exploring alternate timelines and scenarios that could have been changed if certain characters had acted differently. In the second season, which premieres this week, characters like Nebula, Peter Quill and Tony Stark’s fates are reimagined, throwing off the balance of the universe. A new episode of the animated series will premiere daily on Disney+ between December 22 and December 30.
New on Starz December 24: Downton Abbey: A New Era
If you’re sad that The Gilded Age‘s second season is over, and you’ve already binged your way through the final season of The Crown, the 2022 film Downton Abbey: A New Era, which makes its debut on Starz this week, is the perfect period drama to fill your blue blood-pumping heart. (The film even features several actors from The Crown, including Imelda Staunton and Dominic West.) The film is a direct sequel to 2019’s Downton Abbey film, and picks up as the Crawley family enters 1928 by traveling to a French villa that the ailing Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) inherited and renting out their home to a film crew which leads to drama, chaos, and hijinks under their roof.
