Fret not, Severance fans, it looks like some news regarding Season 2 is finally on the horizon.
Fans of the critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series are appropriately freaking out after the streamer’s X account silently shared a still of Severance star Adam Scott. The wordless post appears to tease some news for the highly anticipated new season, though the streamer didn’t share any additional information alongside the photo.
The most information can actually be found in the alternative text, which reads, “From Severance. Mark Scout (Adam Scott) in a close-up shot, looking straight ahead against a blank white wall… He wears a miserable expression.”
By the look of the hundreds of replies which have flooded in since the post was shared around noon on Jan. 2, Severance fans appear to be desperate for more information. Even actress Rachel Zegler replied with her own tweet, writing, “I’m listening……”
Everyone appears to have the same question that we at Decider have, which is: What could this possibly mean?!
“When is season 2 dropping! The wait is killing me,” one fan wrote. Another user agreed, saying, “ANNOUNCE A S2 DATE ALREADY WE ARE DYING OUT HERE HAHA.”
Representatives for Apple TV+ did not return Decider’s request for comment.
Severance swept the Primetime Emmy Awards after its 2022 premiere. But information regarding Season 2 has been sparse. This wordless post is the first bit of information fans have gotten since a report came out in April of this year claiming that the show was suffering from delays.
According to the report from Puck News, co-show runners Mark Friedman and Dan Erickson suffered a major falling out while filming Season 1. Sources said that they allegedly “ended up hating each other,” creating a “toxic” work environment on set. The issues reportedly carried into production for Season 2, which had already begun by then.
But the outlet reported that Apple TV+ was already considering a third and fourth season since the show had become such an “awards magnet.”
Puck’s report also alleged that the per-episode cost had ballooned to almost $20 million, which means that when we do return to Lumon Industries, it will be explosive.
Severance is now streaming on Apple TV+.
