The end of Fear the Walking Dead is almost here. And while Decider’s exclusive clip from the series isn’t technically from the finale — it’s from Season 8, Episode 11, “Fighting Like You” — both Episode 11 and Episode 12, “The Road Ahead,” aka the series finale, will air back to back this Sunday (November 19). And in the clip, Madison (Kim Dickens) is in so much trouble that even Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) has to tell her to chill out.
In the scene, Madison is outside Althea’s (Maggie Grace) SWAT Van, getting ready to take down a herd of the undead all on her own. For Madison, it’s a matter of not putting anyone else who has human connections at risk. For Strand, it’s a matter of history.
“Enough people have died because of me,” Madison says over her walkie-talkie. “I can’t put the rest of you at risk.”
After more coercing, and a desperate “Madison, please,” from Strand, she explains what’s really going on.
“It’s like I told you before, Victor, unlike you I don’t have anyone left to disappoint,” Madison says. “I need to do this so you don’t have to. Then you can build PADRE. It’s what Alicia would have wanted.”
But Strand, the living embodiment of “Heartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Just Made A Great Point,” shows how much he’s grown over eight seasons by putting all his cards on the table.
“This won’t end well, Madison,” Strand says. “You think it will be just this one thing, but then you realize you just can’t stop. I learned it the hard way, at the Tower. There was always one more thing I needed to do to keep it safe. Before I knew it, I was the thing that people needed to be protected from. Please Madison, there’s another way.”
You can watch the rest of the scene to find out what happens next. But given we’re rocketing towards the end here, the question is: will Madison survive until the bitter end?
Fear the Walking Dead airs its final episodes at 9/8c on AMC and AMC+.
