Netflix Movie Preview 2024: ‘Rebel Moon 2,’ ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4,’ and More Movies We Can’t Wait to Stream

The era of streaming isn’t over yet, because there are plenty of new original movies coming to Netflix in 2024.

In recent years, Netflix has made a habit of releasing upwards of 80 new original movies a year. In 2024—or at least what we know about Netflix’s plan in 2024 so far—that number has been reduced to around 50 or so new releases. But, again, that’s just what we know so far. It’s likely we’ll get an announcement about more 2024 Netflix movies in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, there are already quite a few titles to look forward to watching on Netflix this year. That includes the second part of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon epic, the new Kevin Hart comedy Lift, the new Adam Sandler space movie Spaceman, and so much more.

In an effort to help you sift through the noise, we’ve highlighted some of the biggest and most exciting Netflix movies coming out in 2024 below. When possible, we’ve included the release, cast, director, and official logline for the movies.

That said, the majority of the Netflix movies coming out in 2024 don’t yet have an official release date. Stay tuned, because we’re sure we’ll have more news to share on that front soon.

  1. Good Grief

    Good Grief
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 1/5/24
STARS: Daniel Levy, Ruth Negga, and Himesh Patel
    DIRECTOR: Daniel Levy

Marc (Daniel Levy) was content living in the shadow of his larger-than-life husband, Oliver (Luke Evans). But when Oliver unexpectedly dies, Marc’s world shatters, sending him and his two best friends, Sophie (Ruth Negga) and Thomas (Himesh Patel), on a soul-searching trip to Paris that reveals some hard truths they each needed to face. Good Grief marks Levy’s debut as a feature-film writer and director. He also produced as part of Not a Real Production Company, alongside Sister Pictures. It will probably make us sob, but we can’t wait.

  2. Lift

    RELEASE DATE: 1/12/24
STARS: Kevin Hart, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno, and Sam Worthington.
    DIRECTOR: F. Gary Gray

An international heist crew, led by Cyrus Whitaker (Kevin Hart), races to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane at 40,000 feet. We won’t expect an Oscar contender, but we will expect some laughs. Hart also produced this one, working alongside director F. Gary Gray, best known for his 2015 film Straight Outta Compton.

  3. The Kitchen

    RELEASE DATE: 1/19/24
STARS: Kane Robinson, Jedaiah Bannerman, Hope Ikpoku Jr, Ian Wright, BackRoad Gee, Cristale, Teija Kabs, Demmy Ladipo
DIRECTOR: Daniel Kaluuya & Kibwe Tavares

In a dystopian London, the gap between rich and poor has been stretched to its limits. All forms of social housing have been eradicated and only The Kitchen remains. A community that refuses to move out of the place they call home. This is where we meet a solitary Izi, living here by necessity and desperately trying to find a way out, and a 12-year-old Benji, who has lost his mother and is searching for a family. We follow our unlikely pair as they struggle to forge a relationship in a system that is stacked against them. This is actor Daniel Kaluuya’s (of Get Out and Nope fame) feature directorial debut, and it sounds like a harrowing commentary on gentrification.

  4. Orion and the Dark

    RELEASE DATE: 2/2/24
STARS: Jacob Tremblay, Paul Walter Hauser, Werner Herzog
    DIRECTOR: Sean Charmatz

Orion seems a lot like your average elementary school kid – shy, unassuming, harboring a secret crush. But underneath his seemingly normal exterior, Orion is a ball of adolescent anxiety, completely consumed by irrational fears of bees, dogs, the ocean, cell phone waves, murderous gutter clowns, and even falling off of a cliff. But of all his fears, the thing he’s the most afraid of is what he confronts on a nightly basis: the dark. So when the literal embodiment of his worst fear pays a visit, Dark whisks Orion away on a roller coaster ride around the world to prove there is nothing to be afraid of in the night. As the unlikely pair grows closer, Orion must decide if he can learn to accept the unknown – to stop letting fear control his life and finally embrace the joy of living. If you’re looking for something sweet and adorable to show your kids this winter, it sounds like Netflix has you covered. Also, the screenplay is from Charlie Kaufman—yes, that Charlie Kaufman.

But when they meet again in the winter in Barcelona, the love and desire they feel for each other is undeniable. Will they be able to find a way to get back together? The first and second films in this steamy, Spanish teen romance series were a hit for Netflix, and we have a feeling the third movie will be just as popular.

It just so happens to belong to a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship. Based on the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař, stars the Sandman as an astronaut losing his mind at the edge of the galaxy. After witnessing Zac Efron’s Oscar-worthy performance in The Iron Claw, we’re on the edge of the seat to watch his next project. That said, this rom-com starring Zefron as a movie star who falls in love with the mother (Nicole Kidman) of his young co-star (Joey King), was filmed before The Iron Claw, with its release delayed due to the strike. With a cast like that, can you blame them?
