What’s new on Netflix in 2024? Well, sadly not Stranger Things, The Witcher, or Wednesday. Many of the uber-popular streaming service’s most beloved shows won’t be making a comeback in 2024 due to strike-related delays, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find new series to binge this year. In 2024, Netflix is finally giving us more Bridgerton, the long-awaited live action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender, and maybe — just maybe — a new season of Squid Game. Decider has combed through Netflix’s official press announcements, public production notes, and even the fine print on Tudum to pull together our list of the best new and returning shows coming to Netflix in 2024…

Netflix’s original TV slate has come a long way since the offbeat dramedy Lilyhammer became the streamer’s first exclusive series all the way back in 2012. This year, Netflix will be kicking the new year off with a wild star turn from Sofia Vergara in Griselda, a tender adaptation of David Nicholls’s romantic bestseller One Day, and the aforementioned premiere of the live action Avatar. Later this year, Netflix will finally welcome viewers back to the ‘ton for the third season of Bridgerton. And, at some point, we’ll get to see the final seasons of Netflix hits like The Umbrella Academy and You.

2024 is also the year that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss finally follow up the monster HBO hit with another ambitious genre series: 3 Body Problem. Sandman fans can look forward to a new spin-off series, Dead Boy Detectives, while crime fiction connoisseurs can enjoy a bold new take on Patricia Highsmith’s Tom Ripley from none other than Oscar-winning writer David Zaillian and “hot priest” Andrew Scott. If you’re more of a fan of slick action thrillers, Guy Ritchie should knock you out with the new television version of his film, The Gentlemen.

Netflix will certainly keep subscribers entertained in 2024. From Griselda to the fifth and final season of You, here are the new and returning Netflix shows worth waiting for in 2024…

  1. Griselda

    Sofia Vergara in 'Griselda.'
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 1/25/24

    STARS: Sofia Vergara, Alberto Guerra

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Netflix’s newest cartel drama was co-created by i’s Eric Newman, co-showrunners Ingrid Escajeda and Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard

Griselda is a six-part limited series starring Sofia Vergara as the infamous “Godmother” of 1970s and 1980s Miami, Griselda Blanco. The show will look at how Blanco leveraged her charm to ruthlessly carve out a drug empire. More importantly, the series will offer Sofia Vergara a chance to stretch her dramatic muscles like never before. Will you buy the comic actress as a stone cold cartel overlord?

  2. One Day

Emma and Dexter with Italy behind them in 'One Day'
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 2/8/24

    STARS: Ambika Mod, Leo Woodall

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Nicole Taylor is the lead writer on the new adaptation of David Nicholls’s bestselling novel.

One Day follows the lives and loves of Emma Morley (Ambika Mod) and Dexter Mayhew (Leo Woodall) by checking in on them on the same date over ten different years (and half hour episodes). The two meet for the first time on the night before their college graduation and reunite over the years to compare notes and flirt towards romance. This version of the story has cast actual English actors, so fingers crossed the accents sound better than they did in the Anne Hathaway/Jim Sturgess film.

  3. Avatar: The Last Airbender

(L to R) Kiawentiio as Katara, Gordon Cormier as Aang, Ian Ousley as Sokka in season 1 of Avatar: The Last Airbender
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 2/22/24

STARS: Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Albert Kim is the man responsible for bringing the Nickelodeon cartoon to life.

The greatest animated series to ever hit Netflix is now being reimagined as a live action series! WHAT COULD GO WRONG? Okay, so, yes, the original live action film adaptation of Avatar was an unmitigated disaster that landed M. Night Shyamalan in director’s jail, but there’s reason for hope this time around. Netflix has gone out of its way to find young actors of Asian and Indigenous ancestry to bring the show’s iconic characters to life and early footage suggests that we’ll at least get a Falkor-esque Appa. Fingers crossed Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender is more like their recent adaptation of One Piece than the cancelled Cowboy Bebop.

  4. Girls5Eva Season 3

Busy Phillips, Paula Pell, Renee Elise Goldsberry, and Sara Bareilles in 'Girls5Eva' Season 3
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 3/14/24

STARS: Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: The cult comedy was created by Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt alum Meredith Scardino and executive produced by Tina Fey.

The critically-acclaimed comedy Girls5Eva became a darling of comedy nerds during its tenure as a Peacock original, but Netflix is clearly hoping it finally finds the wider audience it deserves going forward. The series follows four surviving members of a ‘90s girl group that finds a second chance at fame when their one hit is sampled by a young rapper. We dare you to watch it and not laugh (or get “New York Lonely Boy” stuck in your head).

  5. 3 Body Problem

Eiza Gonzalez in '3 Body Problem'
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 3/21/24

STARS: Benedict Wong, Eiza González, John Bradley

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have teamed up with Alexander Woo to bring Liu Cixin’s international bestseller to life.

David Benioff and D. B. Weiss famously brought the un-adaptable Game of Thrones to life on HBO, creating a pop culture juggernaut in the process. Can they do it again with Liu Cixin’s heady sci-fi trilogy? 3 Body Problem follows what happens when a disaffected Chinese astrophysicist makes first contact with a super-advanced alien culture in the 1960s and how a group of present-day scientists find themselves obsessed with a secret online game with potentially disastrous consequences.

  6. Dead Boy Detectives

George Rexstrew as Edwin Payne and Jayden Revri as Charles Rowland in episode 101 in DEAD BOY DETECTIVES
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: April 2024

    STARS: George Rexstrew, Jayden Revri

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: The Flight Attendant’s Steve Yocky and Doom Patrol’s Jeremy Carver have teamed up on this Sandman-adjacent Berlanti-verse series.

Although it was originally ordered by Max only to be killed in David Zazlav’s purges, Dead Boy Detectives is sure to find a welcoming home on Netflix. The series follows two ghosts — Edwin Payne (George Rexstraw) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri) — who solve crimes with the help of their alive friend Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson).

  7. Bridgerton Season 3

Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) in 'Bridgerton' Season 3
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: 5/16/24

    STARS: Nicola Coughlan, Luke Newton

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Long-time series writer Jess Brownell takes over as showrunner for the third season of the Shondland series.

It’s finally happening. Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), aka Lady Whistledown, is going to go after her man. After years of pining for the handsome Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), Pen will take center stage in the steamy Netflix hit’s romantic storyline. All we know so far is that Colin will advise his pal Penelope on how to attract suitors so she can get married and out of her family’s house. Of course, the moment other men start noticing the long-time wallflower, Colin’s bound to catch (jealous) feelings. May 16 cannot come fast enough!

  8. The Gentlemen

    Theo James in 'The Gentlemen'
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: TBA

    STARS: Theo James, Kaya Scodelario

    CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Guy Ritchie

Guy Ritchie’s new Netflix series is indeed based on his 2019 film of the same name, only now we’re following Theo James as the reluctant heir to a cannabis kingdom instead of Matthew McConaughey. The Netflix version of the story is sure to mix Ritchie’s penchant for crime with the classy trappings of English manor life.

  9. Ripley

Black and white photo of Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley in 'Ripley'
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: TBA

STARS: Andrew Scott, Johnny Flynn, Dakota Fanning

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Oscar-winner Steve Zaillian has reimagined Patricia Highsmith’s conman for Netflix.

Andrew Scott is one of the most beloved British actors working today and now he’s sinking his teeth into the juicy role of Tom Ripley, the iconic social climbing con artist/killer. When Ripley is hired to travel to Italy to convince wealthy layabout Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn) to come home to the States, he finds himself entranced by Dickie’s intoxicatingly beautiful world. What will he do to stay in it? Literally anything.

  10. Squid Game Season 2

SQUID GAME EPISODE 9 TURN AROUND

    RELEASE DATE: TBA

    STARS: Lee Jung-Jae, Gong Yoo

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Korean director Hwang Dong-hyuk will be serving up a second installment of his 2021 smash hit.

Although we don’t know for sure that Squid Game Season 2 will premiere during 2024, we can confirm that it was maybe the only massive Netflix show that didn’t find its production schedule blown up by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023. Not only that, but writer/director Hwang Dong-hyuk has long eyed a 2024 return for the show. Lee Jung-Jae’s Seeing Gi-hun is going back into the game, although it seems this time he has a much more audacious goal than just surviving to win a fortune. Of course, he’ll have to compete with a whole new cast of players.

  11. The Umbrella Academy Season 4

elliot page and emmy raver lampman as viktor and allison on umbrella academy
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: TBA

    STARS: Elliot Page, Tom Hopper

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Steve Blackman has steered the Gerard Way comic onto the screen for all four seasons.

Fan favorite series The Umbrella Academy is poised to wrap up its four season run in 2024. The series follows seven supernaturally-talented siblings as they attempt to deal with their grief, trauma, and emotional struggles while also trying to constantly save the world. The series is beloved for its wacky, witty tone and numerous time travel shenanigans. Netflix has confirmed that the final season will drop some time in 2024.

  12. You Season 5

YOU SEASON 4 PART 2 NETFLIX REVIEW
    Photo: Netflix

    RELEASE DATE: TBA

    STARS: Penn Badgley, Charlotte Ritchie

CREATOR/SHOWRUNNER: Long-time You writers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo are taking over showrunning duties from creator Sera Gamble.

While Netflix has been cheekily mum on which former loose threads the fifth and final season of You will tackle, they have promised that the story will come to an end sometime in 2024. Will Penn Badgley’s murderous Joe make it out alive? Will a blast from the past return for revenge? Will Netflix push the series finale to 2025?? We’ll just have to wait and see!

  13. More Netflix Shows to Look Out For in 2024:
