If you’re looking for a great new series to binge over the holiday break, look no further than Netflix’s Berlin, the Money Heist spin-off that stars Pedro Alonso as bank robber Berlin in a prequel to the series that made him famous. Want to check out Alexander Payne’s newest film The Holdovers? That’s streaming exclusively on Peacock. There are also great new offerings on Hulu, like the supernatural horror It Lives Inside, and Max, which will release the documentary Oprah and the Color Purple Journey this week, too.

Still feeling the Christmas spirit? Check out The Holdovers, Alexander Payne’s great new dramedy about a high school student who bonds with his cranky teacher while stuck together over Christmas break. Netflix’s new Spanish series Berlin provides some backstory for the manipulative bank robber Andrés de Fonollosa (Pedro Alonso) whose life and death were a major point in the platform’s hit series Money Heist. On Hulu, you can catch the great horror movie It Lives Inside, which co-stars Megan Suri, Neeru Bajwa, and Get Out‘s Betty Gabriel. And in preparation for the theatrical release of The Color Purple, you can watch the new documentary Oprah and the Color Purple Journey on Max.

New on Netflix December 29: Berlin

While Netflix’s Money Heist took a serious and thrilling tone, the prequel series Berlin is a little lighter and, surprisingly, a lot more romantic than its predecessor. Though it still features Berlin as he orchestrates new heists around Europe, it’s a very different look at the volatile and sometimes unhinged robber.

New on Hulu December 29: It Lives Inside

In filmmaker Bishal Dutta’s debut film It Lives Inside, a high school student named Sam (Megan Suri) rejects her Indian heritage in order to fit in at school. After a mythological demon causes the disappearance of her former best friend, she must reconnect with her heritage to protect her loved ones. The film premiered in theaters earlier this year and is now available to stream on Hulu.

New on Max December 29: Oprah and the Color Purple Journey

In the new behind-the-scenes documentary Oprah and the Color Purple Journey, hosted Oprah Winfrey, the legacy of Alice Walker’s book-turned-movie-turned-musical-turned-movie-again, The Color Purple, is discussed in detail by all those who have been a part of it through the years. Winfrey discusses not only her own experience working on the 1985 version of the film for which she earned an Oscar nomination, but she brings together actors and artists who worked on the new musical adaptation, including Fantasia, Danielle Brooks, and the film’s director, Blitz Bazawule, to discuss its impact.

The Holdovers

The three main actors in The Holdovers, Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Dominic Sessa, provide the perfect combination of comedy and tragedy in this heartfelt holiday-adjacent movie. When boarding school teacher Paul Hunham (Giamatti) is forced to remain on campus as the adult overseeing the prep school students who aren’t able to be with their families over Christmas, he and the school’s chef (Randolph) forge a bond with one of the “holdover” students, a boy named Angus (Sessa) as they pass the time together.
