General Hospital started off the new year with some recasting news. Lindsay Hartley is once again taking over for Kelly Monaco as Sam McCall, albeit temporarily, per Soap Opera Digest.
Hartley has previously subbed in for Monaco not once, but twice, in both 2020 and 2022, appearing in 11 prior episodes of the ABC soap. Meanwhile, Monaco has appeared in the role in over 2,200 episodes since her character’s debut in 2003, per IMDb. It is currently unclear why Monaco is taking another leave, or when she will return.
When Hartley first temporarily replaced Monaco in 2020, she shared the news on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter), noting that she had “some big shoes to fill… precious too.”
“I hope you enjoy watching Sam as much as I have enjoyed playing her, temporarily,” she added.
Hartley’s return began today (Jan. 2). She announced the news on her Instagram story todaay by sharing a fan’s post of her alongside Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), which she captioned, “Yes, one more time.” There is currently no intel as to how long Hartley will appear on the show, per Michael Fairman TV.
The show celebrated its 60th anniversary on April 1, 2023, and a primetime special entitled General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling is set to air this Thursday, Jan. 4, at 10 p.m. on ABC.
According to IMDb, other notable soap credits of Hartley’s include starring in over 1,200 episodes of Passions over the course of its nine-season-long run, as well as roles in Days of Our Lives and All My Children.
