Ayo Edebiri deserves a second Golden Globe for her adorable, hilarious speech on Sunday night at the 81st Golden Globe awards. Can we get her to host next year, instead of Jo Koy?
The 28-year-old took home the award for Best Performance in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for The Bear on Sunday, shortly after her costar Jeremy Allen White won the same award in the actor category. Edebiri was practically vibrating when she took the stage in a gorgeous red gown to accept her statue. Her voice shook as she delivered an endearingly sincere speech, and it was the breath of fresh air that this forced, awkward award show needed.
First Edebiri sincerely thanked her family both at The Bear, and her real family. “I love you guys, too!” she quipped, tripping over her words in excitement. But then she hit the heart of her speech: the assistants, aka the underpaid and overworked people who keep Hollywood going.
“There’s probably so many people I forgot to thank—oh my gosh, all of my agents and managers’ assistants!” Edebiri exclaimed. “To the people who answer my emails! Y’all are real ones. Thank you for answering my crazy, crazy emails.”
Can’t get enough of the 2024 Golden Globes? Follow along with Decider’s coverage, including:
- Taylor Swift gave a death stare to Jo Koy after he made a joke at her expense
- Who is Jo Koy, host of the 2024 Golden Globes, whose opening monologue was met with awkward silence and very little laughter?

- Jim Gaffigan’s “pedophile” joke met with stunned silence from Hollywood elite

Edebiri’s words were met with enthusiastic cheers from the audience, and a nod of approval from Taylor Swift. That’s a much better reaction than host Jo Koy got to his monologue. Just saying!
In conclusion, Ayo Edebiri is a precious cinnamon roll. She deserves all the awards and must be protected at all costs. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
