‘When Harry Met Sally…’
There will never be another New Year’s film as good as When Harry Met Sally. This quintessential romantic comedy from writer Nora Ephron and director Rob Reiner turned 30 this year, but still holds up as one of the greats. It’s not just the chemistry between Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal that’s electric—it’s also the chemistry between Ryan and Fisher, Crystal and Kirby, and Fisher and Kirby (the latter pair, sadly, both gone too soon). Plus, no one has ever summed up what “Auld Lang Syne”—AKA the New Year’s Eve song—quite so perfectly as Meg Ryan did: “Anyway, it’s about old friends.” I cry every time.
