‘The Archies’
One highly underrated aspect of The CW’s long-running Riverdale is its assertion about how elastic the Archie Comics characters are. And that’s further proven by Netflix’s The Archies, a Bollywood-style movie that transports the action to India and mixes in musical numbers with some relatively heavy political ideas to make a fresh take that should still appeal to any fans of the comic book source material. When Archie and the gang discover that their beloved town park is going to be bulldozed to make way for a hotel, they not only have to deal with love triangles and parties — they need to open their mind about politics and prejudice as well. The numbers are the clear stand-out, with some fantastic dancing and singing. And for those who didn’t like Riverdale, this is your classic teens doing classic teen things, too. Give it a watch, and you’ll find yourself humming the tunes for weeks.
